Asmara the Capital City of Eritrea was converted form a scattered villages to a modern city by the Italians by the turn of the last century. The art Deco’s of the 1920’s is spectacular and it attests the feat of engineering of the Italian colonial era. Thus there are more than 400 buildings to be recognized by UNESCO

  • There is several sights to be visited. The tip of the Orthodox Cemetery where one can see a 360 degree panoramic view of the City of Asmara.
  • With its modern pinnacle, one can see The Evangelical church of Eritrea towering at the eastern part of the city. It has a history of 150 years when it was a mere hut established by the Swedish missionary in the 1870’s.
  • The Coptic Church a mix of local engineering with that of the Italians built in the beginning of the 20th Century 
  • The Grand Mosque built in 1936. It stands in the heart of the town facing the Municipality Hall. 
  • The Fish Market sandwiched between the Grand Mosque and the Municipality Hall built by the Italians for the Italians. By the turn of the 20th Century. 
  • The Municipality Hall built by the Italians in 1890. 
  • The Medeber, where artisans recycle used car tires, cans, plastic containers, wood. They produce usable utensils for the people who can ill afford expensive items. It was established in 1912. 
  • The Cinema Hamasien, built by the Italians in 1936 for the indigenous people. 
  • The Vegetable market built by the Italians for the indigenous people by the 1920; s. 
  • The Cathedral built in the 1920’s is one of the spectacular architects of the Italian Engineering. 
  • The Post Office built by the Italians in 1916, 
  • The Bank of Eritrea built by the Italians in 1905. 
  • Albergo aka Hotel Italian built by the Italians in 1899.
  • Theatro (an amphitheatre) Asmara built by the Italians in the 1920's 
  • The Hamasien Hotel built by the Italians in 1916. 
  • The villa Roma built by the first colonial head of State Mr. Ferdinando Martini in 1907. At this time it is the residence of the Italian Ambassador. 
  • Pensione Africa built in the circa in 1910 
  • Cinema Odeon built in the 1920; s 
  • Cinema Roma built in the 1920’s there is a vintage film projector of 1937 displayed at the entrance of the Cinema 
  • The Bar Zili building of the 1920's which resemble a Ship with its port holes 
  • The FIAT Tagliero building with its spectacular wing built in 1970. It is a remarkable feat of engineering 
  • The Asmara Brewery built by Madame Melotti in 1940. One of the finest breweries of its time in Africa 
  • The tank grave yard where one will see a heap of tanks and armored vehicles of Ethiopia, destroyed by the Eritrean Liberation forces 
  • The national museum of Eritrea 
  • The Forto Baldisera, currently the Ministry of Information where one can have an almost 360 degree view of Asmara
