Eritrea is endowed with about 360 islands in its Red Sea Territory. Out of these about 210 islands are found in the Dahlak archipelago. Visitors can enjoy sea excursions for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing as well as camping in the islands, not forgetting the tan that one would enjoy in the many spectacular islands with many birds to watch. Diving will include the watching of ship Wreck of World War II.
Eritrea's coastline is 2,234 km, with 1,151 km of it coming from its mainland and 1,083 km coming from its islands on the Red Sea.
Its territorial waters extend between 12° and 18°N and end at the constriction of Bab el Mandab ('The Gate of Tears') and the Gulf of Aden. Eritrea has 354 islands scattered around its coastal waters. A total of 210 of those islands are found off the coast of Semhar, while 137 islands are found near Dankalia and 7 are found off the coast of Sahel.
