Asmara the Capital City of Eritrea was converted from a scattered village to a modern city by the Italians by the turn of the last century. The art Deco of the 1920s is spectacular and it attests to the feat of engineering of the Italian colonial era. Thus there are more than 400 buildings to be recognized by UNESCO.
There are several sights to be visited. The tip of the Orthodox Cemetery is where one can see a 360-degree panoramic view of the City of Asmara.
With its modern pinnacle, one can see The Evangelical church of Eritrea towering at the eastern part of the city. It has a history of 150 years when it was a mere hut established by the Swedish missionary in the 1870s.
