Even during the summertime, Asmara has an enjoyable climate. The modern city of Asmara was literally created by the Italians between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th Century. The city’s elegant streets and the adjoining promenade are comfortable for day or night walking.

The city now accommodates more than 400 Art Deco buildings officially recognized by UNESCO. The city maintains its cleanliness, which is commended by many visitors. Driving to Massawa through Eritrea’s green belt would take the path primarily toward the Keren road. Then turning towards the east the journey would gradually descend through the much-admired fulfill- Solomon road, usually called Eritrea’s Green Belt. The road initially built by the Italians as a weather road has been turned into a fine tarmac by the Government of Eritrea Visitors may feel as if they are driving above the clouds as they could apparently watch the clouds down the hill.

Bird watching is glamorous. In Filfil Solomuna Visitors can have a coffee break mid-way at Sabur or Medhanit resort areas further driving towards the east the descending will continue. Visitors could have a stop-over at the Mai Wu’uii (the famous hot spring) found some 40 kilometers from Massawa. Zula is also adjacent to Adulis. These two ancient ports were a hub to the vibrant trade that uses to prevail in the middle east circa 2000 years B.C. In 1868 A British Military Expedition led by General Napier built a 21-kilometer railway from Zula to Kumaile.

They used the railway to transport their caravan of Elephants, donkeys, and their army to 600 kilometers inside Ethiopia, namely Gondar to fight against the then King Tewodros the then Emperor of Ethiopia. Further driving will take the visitors to Gellalo Village, found along the long stretch of the 1200 kilometers of coastline that Eritrea is endowed with. (Overnight camping)

Driving further along the Danakil desert will have the visitors accompanied by a captivating scenery of gazelles, Ostriches, and the wild donkey (not Zebras), a few of the species remaining in our world today. One would marvel how these rare animals survive in that seemingly parched desert In the Buri Peninsula usually called INGEL by the inhabitants, the Afar ethnic group, visitors can enjoy canoe sailing flanked by mangrove trees.
